Mini Biography
Rupert Alexander Grint was born on August 24, 1988, in Hertfordshire, England, UK. Although only acting in one school play before being cast in the popular wizard series "Harry Potter," Rupert has already proved himself one of the most recognized actors on the big screen. When he heard that there were going to be auditions for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), he decided to try out for it.

Unlike the other children who were auditioning, Rupert came in with hip-hop lyrics that promoted Ronald Weasley, the character for which he was auditioning, and was chosen soon afterward. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was a big hit, as was the follow-up, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), and he has already filmed episode three, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), which was released on Friday, June 4, 2004. More recently, he finished filming the fourth movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

Personal Quotes
[Answering to "Is Emma Watson actually bossy like Hermione?"] I'd tell you, but she'd hurt me.

"Too bad brooms can't really fly. Now if you miss the bus you can't just go in your room and fly to school with a nimbus two thousand!"

"Being famous is wicked, but it's better to be normal."

"Oh, they're scary. To think that people are going to be playing with you!" [About Harry Potter action figures]

"All my brothers and sisters and friends have really helped me. They make my life normal. I still have arguments with my brother. And the little ones don't really understand. They just treat me like Rupert. Which is brilliant, really."

"Fans asking for my autograph is really weird. It's hard to get used to."

"I've tried several disguises and stuff but that doesn't work. I do get recognised sometimes but it's cool,"

"Things at home didn't change much. I still have to clean my own room!"

"When I read the books, I imagined that the family of Ron Weasley was my family. After reading the books, I knew the Weasleys inside out."

[Rupert would also like to play Malfoy]: "He's pretty nasty all times, and that would be quite fun. It would be cool to have the audience against me."

"It's really weird to get recognized and people call you 'Ron.'"

"I am the biggest "Harry Potter" fan; I even was before I knew there was going to be a film. I read all the books. The fourth one is amazing. It's scary, but I like all the books. You've got to read them all to get the complete Harry Potter experience. In the third book, I like all the bits about Scabbers being an Animagus. And I like that Ron gets an owl."

[about "don't be an assiduous student in school"]: "There is some truth in that statement. I don't like school, which makes it easier for me not to do my homework. Evidently, my professors aren't very happy, and being in the "Harry Potter" movies doesn't give me any special treatment. For example, when I returned to school after Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) finished shooting, I had several hours of detention because I hadn't done my schoolwork."

Potter and Spider-Man Up for U.K. National Movie Awards
21 August 2007 (WENN)
Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix and Spider-Man 3 have been nominated for a host of prizes at Britain's inaugural National Movie Awards. U.K. TV network ITV is launching the new awards show following the success of their National Television Awards. Both events invite the public to vote for winners. Meanwhile Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Shrek The Third and The Simpsons Movie have been nominated for Best Animation.

Warner Bros. Confirms Watson Won't Quit
26 March 2007 (WENN)
Actress Emma Watson has ended speculation about her future as Harry Potter's pal Hermione Granger by confirming to movie executives she'll be by the boy wizard's side for all seven films. Fans were left fretting last week when Watson's co-star Rupert Grint suggested, in a British newspaper article, that his pal might not play a part in all seven planned films. But now Warner Brothers bosses have confirmed the actress has no plans to quit the film franchise. In a statement released on Friday, Warner production president Jeff Robinov said, "We are thrilled and proud that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert and Emma have chosen to complete the arc of their characters in the final two films." The franchise's fifth movie, Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix will be released this summer - just as author J.K. Rowling's seventh and final Potter book, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, hits stores. The sixth Potter film, Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince is scheduled to hit cinemas next summer.

Studio Plays Down Watson Quitting Reports
20 March 2007 (WENN)
Movie studio Warner Bros. has played down reports Harry Potter star Emma Watson is quitting the film franchise, insisting they are "extremely confident" she will continue to play Hermione Granger. British newspaper News Of The World quoted the 16-year-old's Potter co-star Rupert Grint as saying, "Emma doesn't want to do it any more. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter'." However, a spokesperson for producers Warner Bros says, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven." Filming for the sixth movie, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, is scheduled to begin later this year.

Radcliffe Is Britain's Wealthiest Teenager
21 November 2005 (WENN)
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been calculated Britain's richest teenager. Radcliffe, who shot to stardom at the age of 11 after starring in JK Rowling's first magical wizard movie Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone, is now 16 and richer than fellow teenagers Charlotte Church and Joss Stone. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire director Mike Newell is relieved Radcliffe and co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have not been carried away by their wealth. He says, "They all know exactly what they're worth but they have not become impossible. My worst fear is that they would have realized that they are absolutely the stars." Radcliffe has just signed a $14.4 million deal to make the fifth movie in the series - Harry Potter The Order Of The Phoenix.

Fiennes Is Voldemort
6 August 2004 (WENN)
Oscar-nominated Ralph Fiennes has won the highly sought-after role as Harry Potter's nemesis Lord Voldemort in the fourth film in the blockbuster series. The Schindler's List actor will play the evil wizard - who has never been seen before, but whose spirit is visible in the first three movies - in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. The film, directed by Four Weddings And A Funeral's Mike Newell, sees the return of Daniel Radcliffe as Potter, alongside mainstays Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire is set to be released in November 2005.

Warner's Distributes Spy Ware to U.K. Theaters
31 May 2004 (StudioBriefing)
Warner Bros. has sent night-vision monoculars to every theater in the U.K. showing the new Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which opens today (Monday). Theater ushers have been instructed to use the devices to scan the audiences for anyone attempting to use a camcorder to record the movie from the screen. One theater manager told Britain's Guardian newspaper: "I've never known a company to go to such lengths to protect a film." The new film is directed by Alfonso Cuaron and features returning stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

Another Harry Potter Actor in 2004?
23 October 2002 (StudioBriefing)
Another company of young actors is expected to take over the principal roles in the Harry Potter film franchise beginning in 2004 for the fourth movie, Chris Columbus, the director of the first two Potter movies, predicted Tuesday. Noting that the current stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will all by teenagers next year, Columbus told Reuters: "If I were a betting man, I'd say they'll probably stop after three [Potter movies]." He himself has decided to stop after two, he said, because he was worn out and wanted to spend more time with his family.

Harry Potter Stars Vow Not To Let Fame Change Them
14 November 2001 (WENN)
The child stars of the new movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone are enjoying their new-found fame - but are refusing to let all of the attention get to their heads. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are poised for buckets of attention when their anticipated film - predicted to become the biggest movie of all time - goes on international release on Friday. But with all of the fame, and cash, which will come along with their movie star status, the pre-pubescent actors are refusing to let it change them. Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter, explains, "I'm never going to think of myself or put emphasis on the fact that I'm famous. I'm just going to know it. I'm not going to talk about it because people who do are often not very nice people." Castmate Emma Watson, who hopes she won't change for the worse either, adds, "I hope my head doesn't get very big. I'm just going to keep my feet on the ground, stick to friends and family and try and lead a normal life." But diminutive redhead Rupert Grint admits he hadn't made plans, like his fellow castmembers, on how to deal with fame. He says, "I've never really thought about it. It's gonna be weird, but cool!"
